How to Fix a Skoda Octavia Key Not Detected
When I try to start my car, it clicks with the message "key not detected". Is there a problem with my key fob?
skoda car keys and electric ENYAQ are equipped with a smart security feature that shields you from signal amplification. In order for the key to be present, a few conditions must be satisfied.
1. Check the battery

The most likely reason why your car won't start is that the key battery is drained. The battery in the key fob will eventually deplete like it does in your digital camera or phone. If this is the case, the simplest solution is to replace the battery. If this does not work then the next step is reprogramming the key. To accomplish this, turn on the ignition, and then put the key inside the ignition. Press the unlock button on the remote control two times, with a gap of one second between each push. Repeat this procedure as many times you would like to program your remotes (up to four).
You can also replace the circuit board inside the key. It could be expensive, but it could solve the issue. This method is not 100% guaranteed to work as it depends on a variety of factors.
A key fob that was not authenticated is another possibility. This could be due to a number of reasons, including someone else nearby had pressed their own button, another device sent an alert simultaneously or the key was shielded, etc. This is especially likely when the vehicle has recently been reprogrammed or changed to a different key.
In modern cars, such as the Octavia vRS and ENYAQ iV, there's no requirement to press the key fob button. if the key is within range of the antennas (located in the door handles), the car automatically unlocks. The system is designed in this way because it is crucial to ensure that only the owner is able to drive the car. This reduces the chance of a vehicle being unlocked. However, it's recommended to lock the car by hand using the key. There is a safety mechanism that prevents the car from starting in the event that the key is not in your pocket.
2. Check the key
If a key fob can't be recognized by the car, the issue is likely to lie with the key. In some cases this can be rectified by replacing the battery. In other instances, the buttons or circuits of the key might be damaged. If this is the case, you will have to replace the entire key.
Modern keys aren't mechanically controlled, but electronically controlled. The system works this way: When the key is hit on the handle (or the boot lock button which is only available on newer models), it sends a signal to the car that activates the special radio antennas that are located in the doors. These antennas scan the area around the vehicle to look for the key signal and, as soon as they detect one, they contact the car. This is how the doors open and, if the system is configured to do so, the "welcome light" is activated.
If the key isn't detected, the message "key not recognized" will be displayed on the infotainment screen. This could be due to various reasons, such as another person pressing the key at the same moment, a mobile sending an alert or the key not being partially covered.
Contact an auto electronic locksmith if you have problems with your skoda remote not being detected. They are experts in repair or reprogramming these kinds of remotes, and they can often fix the problem without having to go to the dealer. You can locate one of these experts in the Yellowpages, or ask your local Skoda dealer for advice.
3. Check the ignition
If your key fob does not function, it could be an issue with the ignition. If this is the scenario, you'll have to purchase a new one. The good thing is that you can get one fairly cheaply from dealers. You'll need to wait for an extended period of time. In the meantime, you'll need to ensure that the key is inserted correctly and secured securely.
Once you've managed to get the key fob into the car, you can turn it a few times. If the key doesn't turn, the ignition barrel may be blocked. It could also be that there's a piece of metal in the steering or ignition barrel lock. If you don't own an extra key, you can open the door manually by pressing the lock button located on the inside handle. This will allow you to start your car and be back on your way without having to search for an locksmith.
You might consider contacting an auto electrician in your area. They may be able help you out since they'll have a good understanding of Skoda electrics. In addition, they'll probably be able to give you the best price than a dealership.
The latest generation of keyless unlocking, which is fitted to vehicles like the fourth-generation OCTAVIA and the ENYAQ iV - eliminates the need for this trigger by scanning the surrounding area by using the antennas located in the front doors when the driver's seat is in use. The doors will open and welcome lights will come on if the car detects that the key is in fact correct. This function can only be activated only if all three conditions are fulfilled. The driver's chair has to be occupied, and the seat belt secured, as well as the brakes applied. If one of these conditions is not fulfilled, the system will not be able to recognize the key, and the engine won't start. The "key not recognized" warning light will remain on your dashboard.
4. Check the door locks
If your car doesn't unlock after pressing the unlock button, it's probably time to inspect the locks. Remove the plastic covering from the door handle with a thin edge or using a screwdriver. Then insert the key and turn it until the door will open.
If the door lock is operating correctly, there will be tiny sensors that sense when the key is in close proximity and sends a signal to the car to unlock or lock. If this does not work, it could be a problem with the cylinder of the lock or the electronics. Contacting a local locksmith will help you determine the exact problem.
KODA's modern keyless locking system called KESSY is also able to automatically unlock the car when you approach it. This feature can be activated from the driver's seat and it will also automatically lock your Octavia when you leave it. Additionally the system can be programmed to automatically open and close the boot, which is a helpful feature that saves you from having to lift and lower the cover manually.
